The memorial commemorates the sinking of the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 which led to US entering World War 2 on the side of the Allies. Over 1000 sailors on board the USS Arizona died. It commemorates the valor of all WW2 veterans who lived and died in the subsequent fighting. It was dedicated in 1962 in the Pacific National Monument park and receives over 1.5 million visitors every single year. The site pays respect to the fallen sailors and heroes who died aboard the USS Arizona and several other vessels during the Dec. 7, 1941 attack by the Japanese. Each year, millions of visitors tour the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, the USS Missouri, and the wreckage of the USS Arizona, which was one of the first ships hit in the Pearl Harbor attacks. 1,177 sailors were entombed inside the ship after it exploded. The Pearl Harbor site is also home to the Pacific Aviation Museum, which features a number of historical artifacts, aircrafts and exhibits, flight simulators, murals and displays. Over 13,000 World War Two veterans who died in the war were laid to rest in the National Cemetery of the Pacific. There are currently 32 different veterans laid to rest in the cemetery from WW2, the Korean War, and Vietnam War who were awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery above the call of duty. The audio tour also walks visitors through the 10,000 square foot museum located in the park which features hundreds of artifacts like photos, flags, paintings, weaponry, and scale to size models of submarines. Outside in the park is the memorial on the waterfront which memorializes the 52 lost submarines from WW2 and the over 3500 crew members who lost their lives. Admission for children that are 4 to 12 years old is $14.95. For children that are 3 and under, admission is free. The Bishop Museum in Honolulu, HI is open from Wednesday to Monday, from 9am to 5pm.
